Hello! My name is Liz. In August of 2010, I moved to Iowa City to help my church start a church plant. I love Jesus a lot, I gave my life to Him following my freshman year of college when I was brought to an absolute low point in my life. Since then, Jesus has changed me so much, although I am still a work in progress! I love all things international. Someday, I want to live my life somewhere that is not America in hopes to be a light to the Gospel.
In November 2008, I started praying that God would show me very clearly where to go after I graduated. At that point, I was still planning on graduating in December 2009 with a marketing degree. Summer 2009, I accepted a marketing internship that although I didn’t know it, would be a pinnacle decision in my walk with Jesus. I loved the people and the company that I worked for, however, I absolutely hated marketing. It just isn’t my thing. I like learning about marketing, but I don’t like actually doing marketing. Some friends of mine randomly mentioned something about me being a good accountant, but I didn’t think much about it…until my boss at my internship said that too. I started praying and pursuing information about an accounting degree, applying for loans, and changing my class schedule. Little did I know just how details were being worked out at that point. November 2009, my church announced plans to plant a church in Iowa City in August 2010 immediately after my graduation date. I was not so excited, not because of the church plant necessarily, more because of the fact that I had a sinking feeling in my stomach and knew that this was where the Lord was leading me. This was the answer to the ongoing prayer since November 2008. I was hoping for somewhere that I thought was super cool or something.
Since then, God has continued me on my roller-coaster ride of life and find myself now in 2012, a newlywed in Iowa City. I never thought that I would actually get married here, that was definitely not in the my original plans at all! It also turns out that I like living in Iowa City. Life is hard at times, but I am confident that the Lord has everything worked out for His good. I am so thankful that Jesus has been teaching me to trust Him and teaching me flexibility (and He is so not done teaching me yet!) God is so good.
“But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ–by grace you have been saved–and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.” -Ephesians 2:4-7
